This week is the Amazon Rainforest Global Week of Action 🐸
🌍 And today is a very special day since it also marks the beginning of the 2nd Indigenous Women's March in Brazil organized by @anmigaorg
From today until September 11th about 4.000 women, from more than 150 peoples from all the biomes of Brazil, will come together to defend their rights, lives and territories across the Amazon.
🚨 The Amazon is in a state of emergency and at a tipping point due to attacks on the rights, lives, and territories of Indigenous Peoples.
🦥 According to a UN report, the embattled Indigenous Peoples of Latin America are by far the best guardians of the regions’ forests, with deforestation rates up to 50% lower in their territories than elsewhere on the continent.
⚠️ However, the demand for beef, soy, timber, oil and minerals means that the threats to Indigenous Peoples and their forest homes are rising. Destroying the forest also means destroying Indigenous Peoples identity.
Hundreds of community leaders have been killed because of disputes over land in recent years and in Brazil especially Bolsonaro’s government continues pushing for legislations that promotes genocide and ecocide.
